Important Information

  • House Coal and Wet Wood are being banned because they give off high levels of smoke when burnt.
  • Smokeless Coals (including Anthracite) and Kiln Dried Logs are NOT being banned.
  • We recommend:
    • Newburn Smokeless is an ideal replacement, cost effective, multi-purpose fuel ideal for use on open fires, multi-fuel stoves, room heaters and cookers.
    • Kiln Dried Logs – Dried to less than 20% moisture.
  • Products that will be banned:
  • The ban is on the sale not the use.
    • If customers have stock of House Coal after May 2021 they can still burn it.
    • We won’t be buying any product back.
    • Wet Wood they should dry out before use.

This announcement is long overdue. The UK is one of the most significant solid-fuel home burning nations in Europe and this is the logical step in the fight against air pollution. There is no need for people to stop burning solid fuels, it is about burning the right products to tackle air pollution. These measures do not mean the end of cosy fires.

Consumers need to make the switch to cleaner smokeless fuels which are 30% more efficient than coal. DEFRA research has shown that these fuels burn longer and have a higher heat output which is more cost effective than coal or wet wood.

You do not have to wait until this ban kicks in to make the switch.

Smokeless fuels are available to buy from our site now.
